Hi all,

I'm back looking for more information and opinions. I'm looking for a truck - probably used. I'm after a crew cab 4x4. If my girls stay involved in riding, I may be towing a horse trailer (5-6k lbs), but probably not on an everyday basis. It's probably overkill, but I've really liked the 3/4 tons I've looked at. Primarily GM. My wife really likes the Tundras.

I've really been considering a diesel as well. All 3 (cummins, powerstroke, and duramax) all seem to have great reputations. On a weekday basis, I'll probably only drive this truck 3-4 miles to work, then back home. I was told that for this type of regular short trip driving, not only would it defeat the purpose of the diesel (long running durability), but could actually do it harm - and lead to problems.

Does this seem right? Is my driving better suited to gas? I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone with first-hand experience like this to support or refute this thought.

Thanks!

Yes, what you heard is right. Lot's of short trips is not good for the diesel. For what you describe, I would get a 3/4 6.0 GM personally. Great towing truck, but not horrible mpg's for work and back.
