I'm looking to buy a four-cylinder Tacoma or other Toyota truck. I've got a very low budget (under 3k) and I'm a student so I need something very reliable and efficient (like with good gas mileage). What should I know? When I get offers, what should I look out for? When I go to check out a truck, what else should I be looking for? Thanks for all replies!

trust hunt, s-10 or v-6 regular cab silverado is the way to go, way less problems and same milage as toyota.

I can't afford the gas for a V-6, and I'm not doing any very heavy hauling. Just furniture and some lumber. That's interesting though, I've always heard Toyotas are the best trucks to go for (because they're Toyotas, among other reasons).

Its really a matter of who you ask. My guess is that yodas would be harder to work on and chevys are just better and you cant find more parts for them.
