I have replaced the idler arm, pittman arm and steering box on my 02 2500HD. Is there a recommended procedure to bleed the pump or box? Thanks in advance.

View Full Version : Bleeding Power Steering Fluid pewter_gashog 07-06-2005, 11:06 PM I have replaced the idler arm, pittman arm and steering box on my 02 2500HD. Is there a recommended procedure to bleed the pump or box? Thanks in advance. Tom makoltd 11-16-2006, 04:49 AM There is just one way to bleed the Power Steering Box and it is simple. I pumped all the fluid from my pump w/handheld pump, ran GUNK Power steering oil through system, pumped it back out and topped it off with GUNK "Clear," PW Steering fluid (Not cheap, not junk, and has the longest life). To Bleed the Power Steering unit you just need to do the following 1.) Fill to cold level (truck needs to have sat for 1 hr) 2.) Start Truck 3.) Turn Steering wheel left to right NEVER hitting end bump stop; meaning, don't take it all the way where you would hear the pump hissing, 3 turns each way from center should do it. Let truck run for 5 mins which will take it from Cold to Hot 4.) Top off PW Steering reservoir to Hot Level. That's it my friend. You've bleed the system Hope that helps GL Grteek |
