I have a problem with the four wheel drive on my GMC Sierra 2500 HD from 2001.
I have changed the Actuator, still not working. The 4 wheel drive is neither woking in hi or lo.
I can hear a noisewhen changing from 2wd to 4wd lo. If I push the 4wd buttons on the panel left of the steering wheel the 2wd is working and the 4wd lo is lit but the 4wd hi doesn't lit at all. Any suggestions what this problem is are very welcomed.
I suppose there is just one Actuator to change?!

Best regards,

This comes up almost once a week..

The front actuator only locks the axles...the transfer case shifts through an "encoder motor"...a motor on the side of the case that shifts it...those go bad,and the 4wd switches go bad..it will have to be scanned to determine which is at fault.
hopefully,its just a switch.,..those motors go for 500 clams.

Thanks for quick reply!
I belive I have changed the encoder motor, I thought the actual name for it was Actuator.
Sorry!
Could it be the actual actuator that gone bad, or the panel with the buttons?
I enclose a pic of the encoder motor I did change.
Thanks for all the help!

yep, thats the encoder motor...sounds like your dash sdwitch is bad...but it needs to be checked for codes to be sure.

How much was that?..was I close?

Thanks!
I'm not sure about the price it cost for the dealer I have bought the truck from. I got it for free but changed it myself.
But I found this at Rockauto for about 172.

Thanks for all help.
