Whats going people, FNG here, just have a question. I have an 89 GMC 3/4T 2wd pickup with a poopy 305. I would like to put a 350 into it. I am curious as to how hard it would be. Not really concerned with the heavy stuff rather the electrical. I dont want to tear the dash apart just to get a 350 in. Is it possible for me to put in a slightly modified 350 with TB and still use the same computer as with the 305? Slighty modified meaning Bored out .030 , roller conversion kit(if there is such a thing for the TB 350), O/Sized valves, and a roller cam. I can always go with a reg cam just probably with a little moore lift.

Swapping it for a similar year engine with relatively the same specs is very easy. The only thing you really need to do is swap out the chip. Yours would still be set for the 5.0 liter 305 specs. You can get these from Jet, Hypertech, Fast Chip, or Superchips. As for upgrading the engine, try one of the GM performance cams. I'm in the process of swapping a ZZ4 shortblock into my 92'. I ordered the Fastburn heads and a LT4 Hot Cam from Scoggin-Dickey. I'm still saving for the Edelbrock Pro Flow which is a direct replacement for 88-95 TBI trucks. I might have to upgrade the injectors and PCM programming. This kit even comes with a new intank fuel pump. You can get this kit from Jegs, Summit or GM Performance Parts.

Thanks Patrick. and thanks to Hybrid. That puts me at ease. I was hoping that I wouldnt have to redo any electrical work. As far as replacing the chip in the comp that is easy.

What gears do you think are good for highway driving. I was thinking 3.73 with a posi trac.

i had 373s in a track car a while back, and it was fine for driving...what tranny do you have? i have a 3 speed auto with a manual valve body, and am now streeting the car with 4.10s...not a bad ride, just rough on the gas
