i just got an '03 gmc sierra 2500HD from a dealer, and they gave me comm. plates. cuz its over the weight limit. DMV says i need to be 5,500 lbs or uder and have a cap on the bed and permanent camping equipment to have pass. plates. my truck is at 5,556 lbs. is there a way to get around this w/o putting a cap on, etc.?

hey i didnt fully understand that but normally a 2500 is at a rate of 5,500. i have a 90 chevy 2500 and it used to weigh that much i did some refabrication so it weighs less now but i used to haul junk metal cars trucks for ten years. not always with the same truck but after i dumped my load the scale weight was always 5500. im trying to figure out why yours is heavier. mabe a xtra heavy dutey steel bumper or utility box? but that would ussally be on a one ton. posably on 3 quarter/ dealer should be the one to know. they cant sell a vehicle that cant be commissioned by law. dont take crap tell them you cant tag and you want them to fix the problem. they should make it right. i have to reweigh my truck so that im not paying so much for tags. the lady at the dmv said the more the weight the bigger the tire there for the higher it is you pay for road tear. hope this helps let me know the outcome im interested.
