tire help please

Hi all i just put new tires on my 01 3/4 ton dodge ram. The tires i bought where michelin LTX AT2 in 235 85 16. I was running LTX M/S's in 265 75 16. The day after i had the tires mounted i drove to Denver and experience some serious wandering on certian parts of I-25. I went back to Big O and had them re-check the balance and alignment, They said it was good. Has anyone experienced similar problems with these tires or size? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Side note if these dont work what size do you think would work well. I went with a thin tall tire so i'd get good traction in snow and ice as well as good gas milage but not sacrifice ground clearence. thanks.

A friend of mine put 285's on a 2001 2500HD and he says it wanders bad when pulling a heavy trailer. He is going back to a smaller tire as soon as he can. I can't remember the brand though...I know it wasn't a major name brand. I don't think they are "E" rated either which probably has something to do with it.

my 02 2500 will wander all over the road the more air i have in the tire. they are a load e range but unless they are weighed way down they will be all over the place. i run 50# in all 4 and its ok. my front end is tight and no issues and my tires are just a stock size or barely over. (size is slipping me right now.) and i have yet to have figured out why it wanders so bad.

We put Michelin LTX M/S's on our 06 duramax and it rides better. I drive it once or twice a week and it doesn't wander any more than any other vehicle. They are the E range tires and they are size 285

Thanks for the advise. I rotated the tires and dropped the air pressure from 70 psi to 60 psi. I took a long drive and it seems better. I'll drive them a couple more weeks before i decide if i'm going to trade them in on a different set. Thanks again all.

I thought I would revive this thread because I'm having similar problems. I recently bought Michelin LTX AT2 and have severe stability problems on concrete roads with grooves. Did the lower tire pressure help?

yes. Dropping the tires psi from 70 to 60 helped a lot. The only time I feel any wandering now is on some parts of concrete hiway. Alterrain tires and the tines on concrete roads are just not a good match. The more agressive at2 tires like to follow tines and groves. I did just get back from elk camp and it was pretty sloppy. The at2 tires were really impressive. Both the guys I went with had to chain up there fronts. I however had no problems without chains. Good luck.

Thanks for the update. I've gotta say the AT2's were great during this past Denver snow storm.
