Default '02 250 Transmission

Greetings,,, My 02 F250 4x4, 62k miles ,seems to have a lil' hiccup with transmission.

This morning,, I put it in reverse,, and it took right off,, then slid it into D,, and nothing,,, like in neutral,,, back to R worked fine,, then back to D, nothing,,, then the 3rd time it was ok, and drove normally. Now I have noticed ,,, at times,, you have to not only put it in D,, but you have to make sure while in D it is hard against the stop, if you understand that., not a good explanation maybe.

It was cold this morning, but still,,, ??????????
A friend thought it could be a worn linkage,, and it is not getting into D properly or all the way,,, ????? Seems to shift fine after it finds D,,, no mushy shifting, or clunks,,,, Fluid is full, and still a nice bright red. I do some snow plowing with this truck,, but not much,, just family and friends. Any checks or test that I can do, to see if tanny is dying,, or are there some dampers, diaphragms,,solenoids, or other devices that tell the tranny what to do ? ???

Could be your neutral sensor. Mine is messed up also, if I want it to go into OD, I have to put it in the bottom part of OD if that makes any sense. it doesn't bother me at all, the only issue I had was that when I put it in reverse, my backup lights don't come on unless I hit the stick. Habit formed.

FORD F-250

What and where is this sensor ?? Does replacing that take a trained doctor, or can I replace it ?

When cold, and in "D",, it acts like neutral.... If I pull shift lever hard against stop, it sometimes picks up,,,tried pulling lever all the down to "1",, ,,,, it still seems slow/sluggish to find "D",,,, no problems after warmed up ,,,,,,???
