Default rear axle seal always leaking

1997 Sierra, 4WD, 1/2 ton. the truck was in an accident once and this may or may not have started right after that. passenger rear axle seal always leaks, every spring and summer it's changed. take the drum off, oil everywhere, shoes soaked etc. other side is always bone dry.

truck has no vibrations or noises from the rear end and never has. it rides like a dream actually. what can be causing this one seal to always be leaking?

this seal has been changed about 8 or nine times in the last 5 years or so. the shaft looks ok, the surface where the seal rides is smooth like glass. the seal fit's over the shaft where it should properly as the other side does.

any ideas?

Hey,
When you or whoever put the new seal in, did you put grease on the seal lip and poor some rear end fluid inbetween the bearing and seal? My thoughts are if you leave it dry your burning the seal out.

Hope this helps.
