Default Dodge 1500

Has anyone ever had a Dodge 1500? What did you think of it?

My brother plans to get a diesel. I've heard that after roughly 200,000 the transmission often need replacing. Is this for the diesel or gas? Is this peculiar to particular years?

Thanks!

Honestly???? JUNK! Horrible resale, horrible highway manners at highway speeds. (sways alot). Good looking truck on the outside...kinda cheap on the inside. GM or Ford way before a Dodge. Electrical and tranny problems that have plagued the Dodge for years were supposed to be corrected, but...sigh...they have not. They just put a better warranty on them.

I've been eyeing the Dodge 1500 too and it sure looks good on the outside though I still need to check reviews regarding its performance. I plan on replacing my good old reliable pick-up but I don't have the heart to do it right now. Might as well go around and check other brands that would fit my requirements before rushing in.

I have a Dodge Ram 1500 1999 and its about to hit 200,000 miles with all the original parts except for the water pump I just replaced today.

This 2nd generation (gas) dodges (1994-2001) are the cheapest made dodges and yes they do have alot of problems. The only unavoidable one is the plenum leak that plagues all Magnums engins (costs about $90 to repair and it can be DIY).

the transmissions for 2nd gens are also crap, mine is the original but the 2nd gear is really messed up. Dodge diesels are much more reliable.

Dodge Ram 1500 is well built from outside but it has got very cheap interiors.I heard that the truck gives good performance and also has some faults. You should also see the Ford Raptor 6.2L its just gonna launch in the market and this truck looks like a beast.

After 200,000 I think a lot vehicles would need the transmission replaced. Most vehicles never reach that many miles to begin with.

Ma'am I own a 1996 Dodge 1500 Laramie SLT with almost 200k miles on it. No problems it is a 5.9L Magnum. It is an overall great truck. I wouldn't sell it for the world.

my girlfriend has a 2000 ram 5.9 and it is the biggest money pit in the world, her grandpa gave it to her with a little over 100k on the clock and now it has 132 and these are all the things that have gone wrong with it in the past two years, bother upper and lower ball joints took a dump, u joints are done, pitman arm idler arm, inner and outter tie rod, trans crosmember is fkd, dash is gone literally it cracked so much there is no dash, and i dont even want to get into the interior it's just overall a cheap look and cheap feel and very uncomfterable, i can not wait to get rid of this thing! oh and her passenger side mirror just fell off the other day, literally the **** just fell, to me dodge = cheap, i do like the 2010 but i dont think ill ever own a dodge, not even the cummings just cause the rest of the truck is just junk! i like my silverado better gas mileage, better ride, more power, and way more comfterable!
