Red face I'd like to lift my ave, what's the best way?

I've got a 2004 black Avalance and I'm looking to beef it up a little.
I'm looking into some Nitto Terra Grappler tires.
But I'm interested in lifting the truck a bit. I'm thinking around 3 inches, or more..? What's the best way of going about doing this? With an actual lift kit? Or air bags?

Any help would be appreciated. I don't really know what I'm doing.

I know this is an old thread, but there are a few ways you can go about it. You can get a kit and lift it off the suspension OR lift it with new suspension. The wheel wells in the Avalanche leave a lot of room for either. It is a pretty large truck for an off roader all utility vehicle and I think it beats out the F-150 in terms of ruggedness. You can do it yourself but make sure you lift it evenly otherwise you may end up with a wobbly ride.
