95 6.5 TD running rough service engine light
Light comes on engine runs like poop. Sometimes runs great. When it is it runs like a scalded dog. Truck shutters then light comes on and loose power and just runs bad. If light comes on I can turn truck off let coast a couple seconds start it back up and will run good again. Could run for hours or days or just seconds. Very intermittent. VERY ANNOYING. Can anyone help. Changed filter and PCM (I think) Dad's truck.
Thanks

If you haven’t installed a remote PMD for the fuel injection, that’s where I would start. If you are not familiar with the PMD problem, just go ahead and Google it and you will read the articles and get some background on the problem. It’s one known problem that has made the reliable 6.5 TD unreliable at times. And it will drive you crazy because it behaves like you described. I’ve seen remote PMD’s anywhere from $250 - $500 in price. I have a 99 GMC Suburban TD and I ran into the same problem. If I would have taken it to the dealer, they would have charged me big bucks to replace the fuel injection pump when all that is needed is to replace the PMD. The PMD gets too hot where it sits on the injection pump and it causes it to fail. I purchased mine from Heath Diesel. What I liked about thiers is that you can mount it remotely and still put the engine cover on. Other PMD's get mounted on the engine block and you then don't get to put the engine cover back on. S&S Diesel out of Buffalo is another reputable outfit.
