Distibutor Gear Worn
I have a 2001 S-10 4.3 liter that has approx 50,000 miles on it and it quit on me yeaterday. The mechnic says that the Distributor gear was chewed up???? What could have caused this and will there be anymore damage to the motor from cranking it over to try and get it to run? Would the oil pump still be working? IS this going to cost me big dollars? Please help.

RE: Distibutor Gear Worn
Howdy, alpinebeers. I like Yuingling and Amber Boch A/B personaly.[sm=icon_cheers.gif] So the dis gear is chewd up and the postings isfrom 9/13/06 I hope you have fixed the problem, but if not this is what i think my be the problem.Oil pump gone bad orTimeing Chain. If it ever backfired or jumped timing, witch you should check. It would affect the distributer gear and the oil pump.If the oil pump is bad it will affect the gears on the distributer. Turning the motor over dose not help the valve train, and i wish other top10 forum poasters would have helped you out sooner than this.[sm=headbang.gif]
