Default "check airbag" light

Hey guys, the "check airbag" light keeps coming on in my friend's 2005 GMC Sierra. It's sporadic though - sometimes it's on and sometimes it's not. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? He's thinking it has to do with a sensor, but he's not sure how to check it. Any help would be appreciated!

He can't check it...it takes a scanner and a special pinout type box to find out whats wrong..most likely,1 of the bags has too high resistance

Man that was a constant problem with VWs when I worked at the dealer. People were always coming in with the airbag light on and it was always some stupid crash sensor, air bag, seat belt sensor, or some other garbage that decided it didn't like you anymore. We should just go back to the good ol' day of cast iron tanks.
