'01 2500 HD tire size question
It has 4.10 gears. Question, what is the biggest tires I can go to while staying stock and not trimming or cutting.
Will I need to get a chip/how would I deal with it changing shift points?
Thanks

RE: '01 2500 HD tire size question
What's the stock size on the 2500's, 245/75R16? The biggest I could fit under my stock 1500 is 285/75R16. That's a 32.8 inch tire. It just barely fits. It comes pretty close to the frame with the front wheels are turned to lock. Your 2500 sits higher, but I don't think you have any more room before you'd hit the frame when you turn the wheel all the way...
Maybe someone else knows if a 305/75 (34in) or 305/70 (32.8in but wider)would fit...

Without rubbing you can only fit 305/70's. And to answer your other question, you can change the shift points, but you don't have to. If you want your speedo recalibrated, you can get a programmer. That will more than likely be able to change the shift points and firmness. You also get more power out of the truck, which you will more than likely need to be able to turn those bigger tires without loosing a whole lot of power and fuel econ. Unless you have a Diesel. Than it is a different story.

OK, so I chickened out and went with 265/75 and I'm glad I did. They look really good on the truck and as of now I can't really tell a difference between stock power wise.
Thanks everyone for the replies.

Yep we got 265 Michelins on the 06 and couldnt be happier. they look awesome and have a 65,000 mile warranty. They come pretty close to the wheel wells and I'm thinking that since the 3/4 tons all have the fender flares maybe those take away some room. Either way its better than those stupid Bridgestone 245's that came with it. Looked like a friggin grocery cart.
I have tried many many different brands of tire and the only one that I have ever been impressed by is Michelin. The Bridgestone 245's were bald by 45,000 miles and no other brand has a ride or life of a michelin. If you ask me it is worth the cost difference. I have the Pro Comps on my 92 and I am very dissapointed. They have about 2000 miles on them and I can already see the tread wearing away. They are balanced and aligned just fine. Oh well, I hope you have a better experience than i do
