Default 01 cavalier

ok, i kno it not a pickup, but this girl friend of mine has an 01 cavalier 4 cyl, and she had me take a look at it. The engine has some major movement within the engine bay front to back when its running, so much so that i think it broke the flexible link in her exhaust system. It doesnt seem to be knockin or anything, and once your driving it it runs fine. Could that much movement simply be a motor mount gone bad? Im talkin about 4 inches on the top end of the engine

definately a motor mount. I think those have the motor mounted sideways, so that is why there is so much front to back movement. Its probably the front one.

I'd say about an inch of movement is normal... maybe even an inch and a half. 4 inches is rediculous. Let us know what you find.

4 inches is not rediculous on a side mounted motor, but would be on a straight mounted motor. Charger pay attention to detail.

I've had 2 front wheel drive cars, I know what is normal and 4 inches is not! Like I said, no more than and inch and a half is normal. I'm sure the engine mounts in that cavy are not broken but definitely need to be replaced. You can go to autozone and buy Energy polyurethane mounts to replace them with and it won't budge more than half an inch then! That would help regain some lost torque and improve shifting due to all that "engine play".

yeah, there is one mount on the right up top on the passenger side ( in front of the engine) and one directly below it into the chassis

Yes I agree that if it is worn out then 1.5" is the most it will move, but broken it can move 4". Don't disagree that something can happen just because you have never seen it. Just because you have owned 2 front wheel drive cars doesn't mean your an expert. We are trying to help Blackhorse out, not inflate your ego. Why don't you try giving another suggestion, the guy said it was moving 4", you are not there, so how can you say he's wrong?

WHOA DUDE! I just said they definitely need to be replaced and I recommend Energy's engine mounts. I was arguing that "4 of play is not normal which is what you posted in reply to my first reply... "4 inches is not rediculous on a side mounted motor, but would be on a straight mounted motor. Charger pay attention to detail. " Your so busy looking to attacksomeone and be on the offensive that your not even reading the replys correctly. Calm down man.

What are talking about that I am looking to attack someone? I have not attacked anyone. I just want you to get your facts straight before giving poor info to someone. The way you posted looked as if you didn't believe the guy. I am just trying to help people here and gain more knowledge myself.
