Default 01 Silverado with 300k?

So I've got the opportunity to pick up a 2001 Silverado 2500HD duramax 4x4 reg cab W/T with 300k on it. It's been fleet maintained since it was new and it's just been a runaround truck for my dad's mold company. They want to get rid of it and I'm sure that the owner would cut me a great deal. I'm thinking about offering him $1500 for it on Monday. Any thoughts? BTW, it has brand new Michelin LTX M/S tires on it with less than 2k on them

Thoughts, concerns, etc?

I figure it'll be a good truck just to have around and a decent winter beater

Decent winter beater has sure changed over the years. I know if it was me i would jump on that like i do with a big mac and fries. I just put a set of 265/75/16 Michelins ltx ms on my tahoe and they were over $1100.00 canadian. I dont know what the prices are in the states but it sounds like a steal if it runs. If you want to deliver it North of the border i could make it worth your trip. lol Fine deal in my opinion. I havent had much to do with the 6.6 but other GM diesels we have had have no problems getting 300-400 thousand miles. Best of luck sounds sweet.

Yeah considering how KBB on the truck is $10,200...

The 6.6 is absolutely bulletproof. We have an 06 and it's possibly the best truck we've ever owned

Hey worst case you part it out. I assume it has the allison transmission then theres the transfercase both diffs like there is a lot just in used parts if you have the time to tear it down. But considering that the diesel is a 10000-15000 dollar option here in canada 1500 is not bad.

Well it's a matter of working on the guy who owns it. It is of absolutely no value to him because it's already been 100% depreciated. Hopefully something will pan out by the end of this week.

Update: It is a 2wd truck, not a 4x4.

How much do you think I could get out of this truck if I were to sell it as is and also sell my truck? I figure I might be able to pick up a low mileage Duramax for the value of both trucks...?

I dont know about down south but the difference in price and desireability in ontario canada from a 2wd to 4wd is like night and day. For some reason the folks up here (myself included on my winter or wifes truck) will not buy a 2wd. Having said that you still have a duramax pickup and for someone looking to haul a camper trailer or anything of the sort id say its perfect. I would check the autotrader here but that would do you no good. As for price i would think that here you would get easily 3-5 thousand no prob for that truck even with the miles on it, if the body was like some that come out of the southern states. Up here you just dont find one that has little to no rust.

Sorry, thought of another thing. Since its a 2wd you might pick it up alot cheaper than the 1500. Like you say its depreciated 100% for the guy so start at a low low lowball price. Not likely to work but if you can then more money in your pocket is better than more money in someone elses pocket.
