05 Silverado V6 manual! where is the fuel filter? = FOUND IT=
Again Haynes has this completely wrong!
There is no fuel filter anywhere that I can find, and I have looked everywhere.
The only place that I have not looked is on the top of the fuel tank which is obscured by the body and other stuff!
Why? oh why? does GM do this kind of crap to the consumer?????????????
Getting ready to sell this heap of problems!

The mystery solved! GM puts some fuel pumps AND filters in the gas tank. The work around is to have the floor of the cargo bed cut and a door fitted to it so that when eventually - it almost always happens when out of state in the middle of the Interstate 50 miles from the nearest human life form, and when, either there is so much traffic that it is suicide to even attempt to leave the cockpit, or there is absolutely no traffic at all and in the middle of a blizard in the darkest night - the thing stops working you are toast! Except that having established the service life - I have reports of 45 K and upwards - you carry a tool kit, and a spare unit. Be careful where you purchase an automobile, some states are positively consumer unfriendly!

That is where the Haynes book says it should be! However both Chevrolet service depts - I checked a couple - and the parts store dude say that the filter is IN the gas tank with the fuel pump. Happily as I suggest above it is easy to work around this except when your cargo box is full of cargo! Cut a hole in the cargo box on the drivers side from the front wall to near the fender over back wheel, width depends on the gas tank size but for mine it is around 18 inches. Have the edges dressed, fabricate and fit an access panel/door. When I get the steam up to do it in this heat wave, I will post photos.

Man that is strange there should be an exterior one as well. I am sure there is the typical "sock" in the tank, but there should be one outside as well. I looked up the part and it shows one that looks just like my exterior frame rail mounted one. That was on the O'Reilly's website which could be wrong, but usually from my experience is accurate.
