1990 350 Silverado
I have a 1990 350 TBI ext cab Chevrolet Silverado , I have been toying around with. My question is: How would one go about putting a true dual exhaust on this truck? it seems the gas tank is in the way and if I tried to manuver the exhaust around it I would end up hitting the 2 piece drive shaft. Any advice would be appreciated.
PS:Im trying to stay legal my truck still has to take the probed emission test's. so Dual Cat's is obviously needed.
PPS: I'm not a mechanic but I have a friend who is.

I have seen it done where the 2 seperate pipes both run down the passenger side (the drivers side pipe crosses over to run next to the passenger pipe right after the manifold/header) and then you can either run both out in the stock location (behind the passenger rear tire) or split them after the fuel tank and run duals out the back, or one out each side. A good free flowing muffler running 2 into one is actually a better torque builder though. Gibson makes a nice bolt on set-up like that.

Thank you for the insight. My friend seems to think if we can relocate the gas tank we could run the pipes with minimal bends/angles for more free flow. But if we cant figure out where to mount the tank(and I don't really want a fuel cell I need my bed for moving and whatnot.) that could be an option. Maybe there would be some way to move the tank outside the frame but I am not sure if thats still legal? I just want my stuff to be loud and two Glasspacks may be what I need. But I do like the lower sound of flow's so any suggestions would be appreciated.

i just finished doing true duals on my 91 1500 and all i did was route the driveds side across where the y pipe was and ran the passanger side all the way back to the diff and split them there and ran out on either side of the hitch

thanks guys, I'll see what my friend the mech has to say about this, he said he could make it work no matter what we had to do. He's been working on trucks all his life and loves to do it and hardly charges me for the labor plus im learning a lot from him. He's more engine side than anything but he did his own exhaust on his truck true dual. welded it all from pipes bought from the parts house.
