1997 Silverado 4X4 transmission help
I have a 1997 silverado 4X4. Transmission was bad when I got it. Shifted fine when cold, once warmed up would go into limp mode. I have driven it like this for almost a year(wonderful gas mileage). I went to kansas city(2.5 hour trip) and bought a used transmission from a guy who buys drive trains from insurance vehicles. I just paid a reputable "craigslist" mechanic 200$ to put it in. The shift linkage doesn't work properly. You can kind of get it into park, and it will only shift into over drive according to the indicator. Judging by the number of "clicks", it goes down to 3rd and stops there. I do not know the history of the old transmission, it doesn't have a removable bell housing, and is a split bell housing. The "new" transmission is from a 99 tahoe with a round removable housing. Both transmissions had the same transfer case. I used the torque converter out of the old transmission, and switched over the old electronics to the new transmission. It's full of fluid, everything is hooked up, and this thing wont load any gear. HELP!!!
