Yeah you got it. Less backpressure more HP. More backpressure more Torque. Though I still don't understand how putting headers on which removes some backpressure would benefit low end if you are losing backpressure....... maybe I'm just not looking at it right.

What I meant by the 60hp is that is the bare minimum you could expect on the modifications I have mentioned earlier. It all depends on the type/manufacturer of each of those products. Each mod varies in hp gain depending on its specifications and how it reacts with the other modifications. 60hp is a best guess minimum gain, you would prob get closer to 70 - 75 depending on which products you choose. Like a custom tune would get you more hp than a programmer. Check out the prices on each modification you want to do to your truck and try and figure out the total cost of the modification versus the horsepower and torque gain. Choose the best combination for what you want to accomplish.

I think the main principle behind the headers is exhaust flow as well as minimizing turbulence and equilizing backpressure across all the cylinders. The end result = less back pressure, smoother flow, equal pressure translates into more hp and torque. Different size and style of tubes get different results. Its more than just a backpressure change.

RE: 1999 5.3 liter performance help?
i changed the oil ona newer silverado toady and noticed the guy had true duals, so i asked him about it. He says that was the opinion of a lot of people, losing the backpressure and power, but he did it anyway, and he says he gained a bunch fo torque........so i dunno. He did have strait pipes as well, and it sounded badass.
