1999 silverado 4.8 auto
Hi,
My truck will usually start on the first rotation when stone cold. If it has been driven and then parked, it must turn over for about 5 seconds and it seems to help if I press the gas pedal down once. Other than this, the truck runs great and gets around 21mpg. Not bad for a 4x4. I would like to fix this little problem if anyone has a suggestion. This problem dosen't present if the motor has only been off 5 minutes or less or over night. Other wise it must cool completly, then it will start "first pull". I am guessing some sensor or such, but not really up on these newer models.
Thanks ahead of time for any help.

Usually weak starting is the battery. You sure it's dependent on how long it sits to cool, or is more related to how long it was running before you shut it down? Have the battery checked. Hopefully thats the problem.

The engine spins fine with the starter. It would pull the truck down the road if it was a manual transmission.
The problem is not in cranking the engine, hence the notation about turning over for 5 or more seconds before the engine will fire and run. The problem is that it will not start quickly when it has been running and then stopped for a few minutes. If it is cold as in sitting over night or for 4 or 5 hours it will start up first crank of the starter. If it is warm as in not long since it was shut off, it must turn over for 5 seconds at least and then it starts at a very rough idle.
I hope that clears it up somewhat.?

sounds like plugwires, kinda like the resistance isnt correct.when plugs and wires are cold they wont have much resistance, but when there warm they have more resistance.so your energy takes a second or two longer to get to coil packs and plugs.thats why most people go with slightly larger wires so the resistance is less during operation which creates a faster hotter spark.if a buddy has the same truck number the wires and try his before buying, some sets can get expensive.
