Greetings - I am considering purchasing the following:

1999 Silverado 1500 Stepside 2x2 - 6 ft bed - 4.8L - Automatic Trans w/170k miles

Looks pretty clean for its age. It will be 2nd vehicle for me. I want it for a dump/Home Depot runner and it would probably get about 3k miles per year.

Would it be reasonable to expect it to last another 30k miles or so with no major motor or trans repairs?

I've heard the 4.8L is pretty dependable but what about the auto trans? (sorry, don't know tranny model but its a Base model 2x2 truck)

I presently own a 2000 LS Silverado 4.8L long bed, that I got new, as a company vehicle, and purchased it from the company when I left. It was, and still is, a work truck that has been all over the country over the years, and sometimes with more weight that it was designed to carry.
As of today it has 223,000 miles on it. The only repair that I've ever done to it is replace the a/c compressor.
It has power windows, door locks, mirrors, auto headlights, am/fm/cd, and everything still works.
I've run Mobil One in it since the first oil change.

As far as dependable, it's one of the single most reliable vehicles I've ever owned.

 

i have a 1999 4.8 ext cab 4x4

it had 180000 miles on it and the engine ran like brand new and never had a problem


currently driving a 1999 5.3 and its no different
