I have a 2001 Chevy silverado with 4.3 V6. I bought the truck two months ago with 104000 miles. I have been noticing a clicking or rattling noise on the passenger side of the block. I talked to a tech and he said that it sound like a lifter. It has the hydraulic valves in it so i adjusted the valves per book spec and still the noise got no better. Is this a common problem on this model 4.3 chevy engines. Is the lifter bad? Any other help would be greatly appreciated.

 

If its a barely noticable noise, it could be the injectors. These engines also have a problem with a loud tap on startup that usually goes away within a few minutes.

 

sometimes i think of mine as a quiet diesel.

 

When you adjusted them was there any that didn't want to adjust right or had to be really tightened more than the others?
