2005 Chevy 2500HD Transfer Case
In the past 4 months I have 2 holes on the back side of the transfer case that are leaking fluid. These are very small about the size of the tip of a pen. I don't think anything could hit it since it is on the back side of the transfer case. The only time I use it off road is in November during deer season.
Is this a common problem?
Is this a casting issue.
Thanks for any help.

well if yoru not the original owner is the vehical still under warrenty if not i would try to contact the previous owner and ask him if he or she had any problems with it as well
also it does sound like a bad casting from the factory
i would check with gm dealership to see if your vehical is still under warranty
if so have them replace it
thats if you got the warrenty to cover that paticular part on the vehical
some dont

An Idea That May Help
Greetings!
I just (as in yesterday) went through this with my transfer case (2000 GMC 2500). The tiny hole in the back half of the case turned out to be from the pump. Apparently, this is common on GM trucks. The oil pump is held by a little clip. As it moves around, the pump housing gets sharp & cuts through the case housing. There are retrofit kits on the market that help prevent a repeat of the problem. Perhaps that is the cause of your leak.
The kit the mechanic put in mine shows at this web site: pump_rub_fix_transfer-case-pump-upgrade-kit
There is a link to a video on the page that explains it ten thousand times better than I can.
I've got a posting on this forum about my leak. The last entry has more details, if you are interested. Before it was diagnosed, a very helpful member supplied me with some great ideas. Perhaps one of his ideas is causing your leak. The posting is at https://www.truckforums.com/forum/ch...id-leak-16609/
If you do a 'google' search for GM Pump Rub, all kinds of stuff pops up about holes in the back of the case.
Good luck with your repair & I hope GM covers it for you (and fixes it right). I'd be contacting the area manager & whoever else I could find if they don't. The warranty is supposed to transfer to you when you buy the truck.
