Default 2005 GMC Sierra Oil Change Light

I have a 2005 GMC Sierra with the v6. I put alot of miles on this truck as it is a company vehicle. I got the oil changed about 5000 miles ago. I reset the oil change indicator the same day. I am kind of worried as it has not come on yet. How do these things work and is it working? I heard it determines oil life by hours and how hard the truck is working. All insight is welcome.

Well its those and also and mainly oil pressure. Pressure is monitored at the oil filter. It reads pressure after the filtration, so when it gets too dirty, the pressure drops a little. So the set up is more like a smarter set up than a scheduled set up.
