How long has the new shaft been out?

Any news if GM is offering any customer satisfaction even if you're out of warranty? This will be my third time in 40M miles.

I was told due to the volume of complaints that they would warranty the problem for 100,000 miles. Check with your dealer since I am just over 100,000 miles and paid for it on my own.

Does anyone have the GM Part Number for then new steering shaft? I've taken my 2005 in when it had about 15k miles and all the dealer did was lube the front end. That help a little but didn't cure anything. Now my truck is reaching 30k and I'm going to try another dealership. The TSB and / or part number would be useful.

The part number is 19153614. I know, I just had it installed on my 2005 Sierra a month ago. At my expense since its out of warranty. This is the third vehicle I've had this problem with, a 2003 Sierra and a 2003 Yukon also did this. Same problem, same part, same solution - replace it with a better designed part. I went to the dealer but they wouldn't do anything for me even though I'm a four time customer. I then went to GM Cares and after three weeks they decided they wouldn't do anything either. I just sent a letter to GM Customer Assistance, my dealership, and the Better Business Bureau in Detroit since its obvious to me that GM is putting a sub-standard part on their vehicles that they know will fail. Things like this make it really hard for me to consider being a five time GMC customer.

No need for a new shaft, I had the same on my 2000 Sierra, I took the steering shaft apart and put grease in it, the knocking has never came back in 2 years, Take the bolt from the section above steering box, with some needle nose pliers there is a metal thing inside the upper shaft, pull it out, I dont know what it is called from the upper inside of the shaft, pump some grease into the upper shaft and put the metal thing back, bolt it back up and your problem is solved

FYI, my letter to GM with copies to the BBB and my dealership did the job. (I didn't think I should have to pay $200 to have the steering repaired when this is an ongoing issue for GM.) I mailed the letterson Friday, got a call from the general manager ofmy dealership on Monday and by the Friday of that week I had a refund. GM Corporate called a week later to offer a refund. The BBB also contacted me about filing some kind of a claim that may have resulted in a refund as well. Needless to say I'm a happy customer again, willing to give GM another shot in a year or so.
