Got 56,417 miles on it. Got a good update today. I went to the dealership today and asked to speak to the service manager. He asked me if I were the same person who e-mailed G.M. corporate headquarters about the steering shaft. I said yes, and he apoligized for the hassle and said he would give me a full refund. I feel better about the service dept., just wish I didn't have contact corporate headquarters to get results.

I have a 2005 GMC 2500HD, Extended cab, 2wd. I have had this knocking since it was 3 months old. The dealer has looked at it 4 times under warrantee and has it now for the same problem. The first time they said they didn't detect any noise, the second time they replaced the lower steering shaft, the 3rd & 4th times they, 'tightened things Up'. There is no actual record of EXACTLY what they did. I'd love to know what's wrong and why we can't get a recall on this obviously BS problem. Petition anyone???

I just went to the GM dealer today with the same problem on my 2005 Sierra out of warranty with 51K on the truck, but after reading all of these posts, I'm going to fight it. I did not have them replace the shaft today, I wanted to do some research first. I have written a letter to GM today, and plan on calling them tomorrow. After two years, and many complaintsyou would have thought they would have had a recall on this part! Last GM product for me!
Thanks,
Rob

I contacted GMC on Tuesday, and had my I-Shaft replaced for free today.

Default 2005 GMC Sierra steering column problem

I took my 2005 GMC Sierra in over a year ago... while still under warranty for noise in the steering column and vibration. They said it needed a lube kit. Now after warranty is out I have the problem again. My husband has a 2005 Chevy same problem. I've learned this has been a issue with these trucks for some time. The lube kit just seems to get it past the warranty but does not take care of the problem... just covers it up for a while. I love my truck but am disappointed with this issue. I've e-mailed GMC but no response. Too bad... otherwise would be a great vehicle.

My I shaft got replaced for free on my 04 with 30000 miles last week. I let em do a bunch of tranny service and oil lube tire service for helping me out. Also had the speedo problem fixed. This was 3rd time my truck was in with this problem in 30 K miles. Until now it was always the lube pack repair. This is the first time shaft was replaced.
