2006 6.1 2500
My 2500 6.1 is a dog. I thought for the liters it would have more power. The fuel economy isnt all that great either but thats to be expected on the 3/4ton. Am I alone on this one or our others not impressed with the 6.1

Could you be a little more specific please?? You say the fuel economy "isnt all that great". Are we talking 9mpg, 15mpg, what?? A point of reference is my '90 silverado 3/4 ton 4x4 w/5.7L TBI (virtually an electronic carburetor) gets 14.5-15.5 mpg, virtually independent of driving style. If I get on it, it'll get up and go, but it's no sport truck.
I it 2wd or 4wd? I'm assuming this is an automatic?
Under what conditions are you noticing this lack of power - does it hold a constant speed up a hill with cruise on? Do you notice it is sluggish to accelerate when you punch it hard?
Sorry guy, just need a bit more information to form an intelligent response.

as far as mpg 14 is the best ever its usually closer to 12. It is just a work truck so I havent punched it but once or twice, and it gets up and goes but just isnt responsive. I normally drive it at around half throttle to take off or merge. It just seems like it is starving for air, no throttle response. It is a 2wd and as far as pulling heals it holds speed as long as it is empty. I pull a 16ft. bumper pull trailer that ways 450lbs. and even when the trailer is empty it will down shift and bring the rpms up to 4000 and hold it. Ive had 5.7, 4.3 and even the vortec 454 in a 96 and have never been as disappointed in a chevy motor.

RE: 2006 6.1 2500
12-14mpg definitely seems low as even my effectively-carbureted TBIsilverado does better than than.
Are you the first owner? What kind of recent maintenance/modifications have you done to it, if any? Has it been sluggish and had this poor fuel-economy since you first bought it?Is there any kind of fuel-smell coming out of the exhaust that you can tell? Other than the "suggish" response, does it appear to idle and run normally otherwise?
Could you clarify this statement? Are you saying that you really have to floor it in order for it to get up and go, but small pedal changes don't affect the speed quickly (at highway speeds)?
Addressingthe low mpg, I would suspect that the engine is running a bit rich, should be evidence in the form of a fuel smell out of the exhaustI would guess.
