2008 2500HD Rear End
Hey guys, I am new to the forum.
I have a question that I hope someone can help me with. I have a 2008 Silverado 2500HD with the 6.0L gas, 6 speed auto, and 3.73 gears in the rear end. I use the truck to pull a 31' Coachmen Adrenaline toy hauler that weighs in at a little over 10,000 pounds loaded. My problem is that the truck has to work a little too hard to pull up some of the larger hills on the highway. It will still make it to the top of the hills and everything, but really doesn't want to go much over 40-45 mph.
So, my question is, is it possible to have the dealer put 4.10 gears in the rear end?

Yes the dealer can change it to 4:10s that would do alot better for you on towing. Or find a local auto place to do it. It might be cheaper. Also you will have to change the pcm to read the new gears.

I would imagine that they would come with 4.11's already. My 04HD wit the 6.0 came stock with 4.11's. Your best bet is going to a 4 wheel drive shop or a gear shop to do your gears.A dealer would just charge you double.

I agree with the gear swap idea but a new PCM isn't needed, just a tune.
Its either that or get a more aggressive CAM, a tune, K&N air filter, intake maybe, stuff like that to boost the torque.

RE: 2008 2500HD Rear End
I have the bigger rear end in my truck, set up with the same motor and tow about the same weight. Still have to slow down to 40 or 45 going up hills. The rear end swap will help, but don't count on it making all the difference in the world... for the money you pay to swap them out, I doubt you will get the results you are looking for....
