4.8 VS 5.3
I was driving our tahoe the other day, when my cousin pulled up beside me. Naturally it was on! the 2004 tahoe has a 5.3l. His Silverado is a 2003 with a 4.8L. Now, in my mind it was game over.... I thought i would smoke him. WRONG! The only mod he has it 40 series exaust. Our tahoe is stock. The only thing i could think of was either the weight of the tahoe, or maybe the 5.3 is not made as fast, just more torque?? Someone please fill me in.....

RE: 4.8 VS 5.3
Its all about what they are designed for. The tahoe is made for hauling people comfortably, the truck is for power and torque to haul ****. The programming is different. Also if you look at the new trucks, the tahoe has more HP (10 or so), but is still slower. Also the truck does weight less, and freeing up exhaust makes a big difference.

RE: 4.8 VS 5.3
I asked the same question earlier, and i bought my '03 Silverado with a 4.8L, and it has all the power needed to tow my boat, as does the wifes Avalanche with the 5.3L, and HP is 270 for the 4.8L and 285 for the 5.3L. I just put a K&N FIPK 57 series on my truck and it makes quite a bit of difference @ mid range RPM's, and you can hear the ole air breather suckin in the extra air. I haven't raced anyone yet, cept just messing around, so i can't help ya there. Jim
