RE: 4 wd electrially mess up i think
I have not had the service 4wd light so far since the soldering, the mileage/transm. lights have been working for the most part. . . there was a small period when it went blank and it came back up after a couple of minute(the service 4wd still did not come up).
I do not recall all of my lights being lit on the 4wd,2wd light panel when the original problem occured, but I could have missed it.
My problems were the service 4wd light, and a delay/hesitation in the shifting from 2wd and 4wd. I would have to push the 4hi button 5 times to get it to work and other times it had no problems. If this fix doesnt hold I will be buying a switch at autozone for 59.00. I dont plan on going to chevy paying them 200.00 jsut to hook it up and tell me whats wrong.

When I had the problem, I could not change to 4WD at all I just had to stay in whatever was selected before the problem. And I could not tell what I was in, jst had to tell by feel. LuckilyI was able to get this problem fixed while still under warranty. I hope the solder solution takes care of you though.

Yeah. That's what mine is doing. In 2wd, the 2wd light is usually lit. But when I try to change it to 4h or 4L, it won't go and the indicator lights go out. It will eventually go in to low, but I have to tell by feel. Then I drive 3 miles around my pasture (start & stop) while hitting the 2wd button to change it back. No light, have to listen for the clunk! Still have not checked my switch... bet that's it!

thats what i would look at. . . . right now im looking at another possible problem. Last night and tonight when i started my truck the mileage happened to be blank(no 4wd service light still) and when i put her in drive i noticed that my tow/haul light was on ? ? ? I will make sure these next days that i dont accidentally hit the button but i seriously doubt that was the case in the frist place. I might be changing the switch here soon.
Are there any circuit breakers that i can pull to reset my electrical system or should i jsut unhook the battery turn the lights on to expel any juice sitting inside the sytem and let her sit overnight that way. I erased the service engine light that way when a bud forgot to hook up two plugs on the bbk throttle body.

I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado 2500, my sevice 4wd light was on. I had taken it to a local transmission repair shop and I was informed that my transfer case connectors were corroded and was not getting a good connection, so whenever it would rain or snow my service light was on. After repairing this and $450.00 later. The service light still persisted to come on. So I went to a GM dealer and bought a new switch, this finally fixed the problem. hope this helps everyone. Major suggestion given "check the switch first it is only $65-$70 brand new.

Currently, I am having a similiar problem.. the light is lit up AUTO 4wd... it does not respond when I push the switch to 2 wd,4 hi....it feels like it is locked in 4wheel high mode. soo,,,is it a switch problem, an encoder motor problem,or both? This is on a 2004 Silverado CrewCab Z-71 with around 169,000 miles on it.
