Post 4L60e transmission.

OK guys my truck is a 1993 F/S GMC with a 5.7 and a 4L60e tran's well years ago my tran's shelled out and I bought a tran's from a 1995 F/S Chevy truck for $50.00 bucks but they said it wouldn't fit I think it was due to a different wiring harness and something else I don't recall. So can any Transmission tech tell me what I have to do for it to work on my truck?
Thanks! RJ

somewhere in the late 80s early 90s they went from the 700r4 to the 4L60E (which is a glorified 700R4)......the 4L60E uses 4 plugs.....one big round one(passengers side) and 2 for the neutral saftey switch...and one for the speed sensor....but there are 4 options for these model years........a 4L60E, 4L65E, 4L80E, 4L85E.........the 60 and 65 have a 16 bolt pan and the 80 and 85 have a 17 bolt pan....the 60 to a 65 would require a ecm reset but not a 60 to a 60....hope this helps....if not let me know

chrisbmo2000 my 1993 trucks trans is a 4L60E and so is the one that I bought from a 1995 truck but do you know what I have to do to make it fit I heard it's something to do with the harness and the levers to connect the gear selector or something like that maybe it also had to do with changing out the valve body now again from what I heard 1995 is an odd ball that only fits for that year but I want to know what is needed to convert it to work on mine. The reason is I would like to get it ready if something happens to mine because I know it's a good trans. I need more info than what you wrote because I know both are 4L60e transmissions except mine is from a 1993 and the other one is from a 1995 truck.

should be a straight swap......the only issues would be like you said the gear selector set up and the tail shaft. That being said without a pic of both trannys gear selector I cant be of much more help

Default You got the wrong trans

If you bought a 95 trans and you have a 93 truck it won't work! The 93 and 94 will interchange but the 95 was an odd-ball year because of a thing called a pulse width modulator (PWM). The good thing is that you are only out $50. My suggestion is post it on Craigslist and you will actually MAKE money because so many people with 95s are looking for one. You could probably sell it for $200+ in a weekend, take the money and find a good 93 or 94. I know because I have a 94 and just had to replace the trans (sheared the sunshell) and fortunately found a 93 truck at the picnpull that was rolled, $100 after bringing the core, SCORE!!! I am helping a friend with trying to replace his 93, I am watching the picnpull yards again, the cheapest at the other yards was $400. Good luck.

Everything in all my books shows all the internals and case are the same....as far as I know a PWM (pulse width modulator) is engine related and does not affect the tranny at all (according to my rebuild manuals.
