Default 4WD Switching Issue

Hi folks...I just posted this in the Sierra forum too, but I thought one of you guys might know as well.

I just bought a 2007 Sierra Classic Ext Cab, 4.8L,with manual 4WD. According to the owners manual, you should be able to switch into 4HI from 2HI at anytime, any speed. While the truck is stopped, I can shift it between the two modes without any issue or effort. However, when I'm driving forward, if I go to shift from 2HI to 4HI, it requires a lot of effort...almost to the point that I'm worried something's gonna break by forcing it. The dealership said everything is okay...but I don't believe them. I don't think putting the truck into 4HI should require that much effort.

Thoughts? Comments?

Yeah, after shifting it a couple of times it will smoothen out (try shifting while coasting around 45 mph).

something similar happened to my 05 silverado. it ended up being the cable the connects to the motor that actually engages the 4wd.

Yeah, you'll have to give it quite a bit more effort than sitting still..It should not be TOO tough though...It may loosen up some if she's brand new

Thanks for the advice guys. The dealership did say it may be tougher because it's new. I'll give it a couple more weeks I guess and see how it is then.
