Default 5.3 to 5.7 swap

I have a 93 silverado with a 350 tbi. it has a rod knock. I purchased a 5.3 tpi out of a 2003. It came complete with the wiring harness. Is it possible to swap the 2 without a whole lot of headaches or could i take the 5.3 block and put my heads and intake from the 5.7 on it and bolt it up? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanx[/align]

The bore was the same in earlier 350/327s. Not sure about the 325. Search the net for those #s. If they are the same you should be able to use the short block. Depending on those #s you may gain or lose some compression. Worst case senario.....325's may not have a reciever for a distributor. I never checked.

That's a good question. You know what tranny you have? I know in some of the earlier year 5.3 trucks they used the 4L60E which is what I also have in my 95 Z28 which also has the 5.7 LT1. If you have the 4L60E I bet it just might bolt right up to your factory drivetrain. Argon could probably tell you more about that. I don't know for sure. Then you'd have to figure out how to mount it. I don't know the difference between the mounting setup with an LT1 and an LS style engine but I know they are different so much so that nobody does the LS1 swap on Camaros that come factory with an LT1. Everyone says it's too difficult to bother with. The trucks may be a totally different story though. Good luck with that! I'd like to see pics if you do it.

its completely different...not the same animal at all.
as Josh asked, what tranny ya got?....

the intake is totally different...has knock sensors where the 350 intake would sit....different head bolts.....no distributor...
not a chance for it work unless you do the whole swap.
either a 700 or a 4l60 will bolt up...but I'm wondering about shift-control.a 700 has a tv cable,and your 5.3 has no place to hook it up.

But if he did have a 4L60E, could he bolt it right up? Would the newer ECU be able to talk to an older 4L60E or would it have to be recalibrated to talk to it? Wonder if the wiring harness would accomodate the tranny. It would be pretty cool if you could just drop a whole 327 in there straight out of a newer truck. Probably makes a lot more power than your LT1

if it has the 4l60..I imagine he'll need the 4l60 out of the "donor" truck as well...The main plug would be the same...but calibrations will be much different....and he'll need the donor pcm to run the 5.3 anyway
