6.0 questions
Howdy all!
I am looking at purchasing an '02 to '03 Chevy or GMC 2500 crew cab and I was wondering about the 6.0 engines. The ones I was looking at had between 75k to 112k miles. Just the basics I reckon, what's the fuel economy, or the lack thereof, like? is she dependable? reliable? are there some things I need to look out for? I currently drive a '97F250 PowerStroke with 130k miles. Great truck but she is beatin' me to death. I should wear a kidney belt when I get in her. Any way, just looking for some direction. Thanks

RE: 6.0 questions
I've had mine for five months - 160k on a 6.0 4x4. I get around 10-12 mpg city and 15-16 mpg highway, but that is with a transdapt TBS ($50 and boosts the mileage for my truck 1-2 mpg depending on how heavy my foot gets). Strong as an ox, I've pulled a Bobcat rig that rough's over 12K even though my truck is only recomended for 11K. I don't know of any specific problems to look for other than what you would look for on any vehicle. I'm starting to have problems with sensors going out, but that's just mileage and hard use. They're factory sensors and are just wearing out. I've seen 6.0's on ebay with over 200,000 and still selling for $7,000.
All in all it's a great truck. I recomend it for anyone who does any regular or even semi-regular pulling and hauling.

RE: 6.0 questions
The 6.0s are rock solid. I own 2 of them (99 and 05 K2500s 4.10 gears) and couldn`t be happier. My mileage isn`t all that high yet, but the company I work for has several of them and they don`t roll them out till 250K or more. And so far there haven`t been any issues other than normal maintenance. I get from 12 to 14 around town and 15 to 17 on the road. Now pulling my gooseneck with equipment, I won`t mention my mileage...but they pull the load fine. And I`m talking 18K plus the truck.

RE: 6.0 questions
I have family that have the'01-'03 model K2500 w/6.0 and they all have piston slap issues with theirs. It's supposedly normal and unfixable. So get used to it if you want a older 6 liter. They tow 5th wheel horse trailers and say it tows decent. I drove them and wasn't to impressed with it's power to accelerate though! They are hard on gas compared to the 5.3L but good compared to a Ford 5.4L. Personally, if i brought a GM, i would get the 5.3L or go for a Duramax.

RE: 6.0 questions
(6.0 2500) I think the gas mileage has more to do with the weight of the damn thing over displacement. A 6.0 in the SS gets about the same as a 5.3 (or real close) as my neightbor has one and we get about the same. (obviously) his is only 2wd as mine is 4x4. Oh and its only a matter of time before my street becomes a drag strip cause my neighbor has a tuned SS and a new neighbor down the street has an older Lightning, here we go!
