Gentlemen
Don't know if this is the right spot for this but if not could you kindly point me in a direction. I have a 66 GMC 3/4 t 4 wheel drive truck that I am changing from the externally regulated generator to an internally regulated altenator. I have run into a problem and think I know the fix. I ran the Field terninal in the alt to the pink ignition lead. ran the Heavey red to the starter solenoid like the gen hookup and ran the r terminal back to the positive battery. Everything works fine and the new alt is putting 14.5 vol back into the Battery. The problem is I can't shut it off. Turn the ignition key off keeps running, disconnect the ground to the battery keeps running. From what I've read the field wire should have been connected to the ignition through the idiot light buit I have guages and no idiot light. I think the fix is to put a resistor in the field line between the ignition and the F terminal on the alt. Question is what ohm resistor?
