8.1L fuel usage?
I'm looking at an '07 Sierra SLE 2500 ext. cab, long bed with an 8.1L and auto. I was wondering if anyone here knows approximately what kind of MPG's I should expect from a truck like that.
The truck has 47K miles on it, and it's located at a Ford dealership. They had it priced at $19,995.00 plus tax, tags, and title charges. After some talking with the salesman he gave me a "drive out price" of $16,500.00 (everything included). We have a 6% sales tax here, so I'm thinking the actual cost of the vehicle is about a thousand bucks under that.
My only hang up with the truck is the 8.1 L engine. If it had a 6L, I'd already own it.
Can anyone shed some light in the 8.1L for me? MPG's, reliability, chronic issues, anything?
Thanks.

From what I've heard, the 8.1 is going to be about the same reliability wise as the other Vortec motors as they all use similar construction. As far as fuel economy, I don't think theyr'e that much worse than the 6.0, probably depends on how you use it

My buddy has a 8.1 liter in his 01 Chevy Avalanche 4x4 2500HD. It got 12 MPG the last tiem he ran it on a highway trip. Now that is completely stocka nd he was running 70 MPH. Around town... I will just say this. His wife drives it to work since it is only 2 miles from her job. He drives her Honda to work. 20 to 25 miles. It is a beast though. As far as any problems I have not heard of any accept for finding parts and the prices of the parts. hope this helps. And just for my 2 cents... if it is at the Ford Dealership there is a reasson why expecailly with with only 47K on it. I am betting gas mileage.

Well, since I posted the Op a few days ago, some issue's have arisen. I started to get into the pricing sheet the salesman gave me. Here is some of what I found:
The rice sheet shows the truck as an SLT. It's not, it's an SLE.
The price sheet shows the truck has having Leather interior. It does not, it has cloth.
The price sheet shows the truck as having a 6.0L engine, it does not, it has an 8.1L.
I contacted the salesman yesterday afternoon and pointed out some of the discrepancies between the pricing sheet he gave me, and the actual vehicle. I also pointed out that he sheet does not mention the minor damage the the lower right rear of the cab, and the pick up box, but rather shows the truck as being in "excellent condition".
To be fair, the damage isn't bad at all, and since I want the truck to use as a work horse, I'm not even sure I would fit it, but, it's still not in "excellent condition".
I told him that in my opinion if the truck he is representing in his paper work is worth $16,500.00 drive out price, the actual truck having cloth, not the advertised leather, being an SLE, not the advertised SLT, and having a less desirable engine in it, 8.1L instead of the advertised 6.0L, there should be a considerable price difference in the actual vehicle over the falsely advertised vehicle.
I offered him $12,000.00 drive out for the truck. If he takes it, I might own a new truck on Monday or Tuesday. If he does not, i"ll continue my search.
I hate the fact that they misrepresented the truck to me, and until I actually sat down and went through the actual equipment list on the truck I thought I was looking at a pretty good deal. Turns out it was being misrepresented. After comparing apples to apples, the deal didn't look as sweet!

yeah i dont think its the fact that its hard to write down proper info i think its more of there trying to be slick and pull a fast one on someone who would check thouroughly as the original poster of this tread did
alot and the paperwork showed that probably to sell it faster because as he said the 8.1 is and undesireable engine
and they probably didnt sell much of that make of truck at all
if so people probably got screwed over
anyway its still a good truck if only i had money to buy a new one

Well, it looks like I'm not getting that truck. I spoke to the sales manager today, and he won't take my $12K offer. I'm not offering more, and he's not willing to budge even though admittedly falsely presented the vehicle to me, originally.
It might sound like sour grapes, but I'm thinking it's just as well. If they misrepresented the truck as I explained earlier in the thread, who knows what other issues there are either with the truck, or the dealership. I think it's all for the best that I let this one pass.
