Default 98 Brakes

Hey argon, Have you any idea on why my brakes are mushy, they are not fading or weak. the peddle is just mushy, it has been like this since i have owned it. I have replaces the pads and shoes had all rotors turned and drums turned, also replaced the master cylender and blead the brakes like four times. I have no clue anymore! My only guess is the booster, but it's not getting tough. The peddle goes about half way down before the brakes start getting responce, then they are fine. I have tried pumping them many times and that doesn't really help. If you or anybody else has an idea of what it may be, please let me know, I am annoyed!

well...98's and other years there had 'mushy" brakes...try anti-locking a few times and see if that helps (slide the brakes on a gravel lot...sharply....you'll hear the abs pump run)..

also..guess what 1 fix is.....gm has a thicker brake pedal pad available...your foot does not sink as far.....and ya know what?..IT WORKS...many customers have been satisfied by that!

Thicker brake peddle pad! You are ****in' me right? Well I have ran the ABS a few times (North Dakota Ice) and it never seemed to help. they are still strong just mushy, so I will not worry. Just curious.

Dude,I'm serious,,,If I snuck a pad on...you'd swear the brakes were suddenly wonderful....All in the mind I guess...the foot does not go down as far

have you checked the hydraulics at each wheel for leaks? or maybe a kink in one of the brake lines, sounds alot like your not getting proper pressure.

I had the same problem with my '01 Z71. Even braded lines didn't help much.

As long as the brakes are working fine I wouldn't worry about it. It's a truck..... it's gonna have its quirks ya know?

Yeh I understand, like I said they were working fine. Then yesterday I was driving home and I had the ABS pump start kicking on. Only at low speeds and I was on asphalt (no lose of traction). They also squeeled pretty bad (unusual).I am pretty confused! I plan on tearing into it this weekend. I have a suspition it may be a lost pad. But its always good to getanother opinion! Then again it could be a problem that isrelated to the other problem.
