ABS or warpped rotors
Hello,
I'v been noticing that when I brake moderate to heavy the whole front end shakes. Even at low speeds while I'm towing, and hit the brakes the same thing happends. Do I need new rotor or is it just my ABS? I thought I'm post here before I go outside, where its 98 degress, and pull the wheels off.
Thanks,
Tom

i would say its a warped rotor or calliper before id say abs. you could have a look at the rotors for heat marks (not always apparent) but if they are likely hood of calliper or rotor issue. is there any pulsing at all at low braking going say 5-10 mph and gently applying the brakes. sometimes you will feel the brakes grab and let go as the wheel turns.

Does it only do it when towing a trailer? Does the trailer have brakes too? I only ask, because my grand fathers truck does what you are describing, but only when pulling his antique care trailer and it is does this, because of the trailer brakes being out of adjustment and causing the truck's rearend to shimmy and shave like it is warped rotors as you are describing.

There's a good chance that your rotors are fine. Pull them and have them specked
to see if they are warped, if not have them turned and put them back on the truck.
What a lot of people are calling warped rotors is nothing more than pad transfer to the disk face which causes it to set of the ABS with the pulsating vibrations.
I had this problem at 25k turned the rotors and now at 78k everything still works fine.
Special note: over half of these miles were done pulling a travel trailer that weighs
6650 lbs. It looks like these original pads are going to make 100k, time will tell.

i had a 95 explorer police vech that had same problem it was rust built up between the abs senser and the hub causing improper clearance i removed sensors filled hole with paper towel and filed hub mating surface down smooth reinstalled sensor with dielectric grease and no more problems ( online everybody was saying replace hubs)

Thanks for all the replies
I have only had this truck for about 1 month. I had it in for service because the ABS light came on. The mechanic said I had a bad wheel sensor. So 250 bucks later I still have the shake in the front end. I should have ask the mechanicto inspect the rotor while the wheels were off, but I didn't think of it at the time. This only happends at higher speeds and heavy breaking, no difference if I am towing or not. Besides my boat only weights 3000 pounds. 18 ft fiberglass ski/ fish outboard. I think before the summers out I'll just replace all four.
Thanks,
Tom
