You shouldn't need to drill through the metal. I remember on my 2002 I cut a slice through one of the large rubber grommets on the drivers side of the fire wall. It had some factory wires going through it already. Just be careful and cut a small slice with a razor blade and feed it through there. You just don't want a wire running through bare metal, it needs to have rubber around it.

I have taken a section of wire coat hanger and carefully pushed it through the existing grommet and then taped the new wire to that and pulled it through. You can go through with the existing wires or you can make a new hole in the grommet for this new wire only. Cutting or even pushing the hanger through can be dangerous to the other wires so be careful. Good luck.

I ran mine through a grommet on the driver's floor pan. If you roll up the carpet just a little, its right there. Im too big to try to even look under the dash so this was my 2nd best choice.
