Audio Question
Has any one heard of or had an aftermarket radio work in conjunction with the stock radio. I am wanting to install my AVN 7000 in center console, but i still want to be able to use the stock radio as well. Is this even possible???

RE: Audio Question
What is an AVN 7000? The only way I know to use aftermarket audio with a stock stereo is to use a FM modulator to broadcast the signal over the radio waves to the factory radio. There might be an adapter for a CD changer for the factory stereo that can be used for other audio components but Im not sure.

RE: Audio Question
AVN stands for Audio, Video, Navigation. It is basically an all in one that had a flip out 7" screen with hdd navigation, dvd, and the basics (radio, cd player). I'd even be happy with being able to use the stock 6 disc cd changer with my aftermarket...

RE: Audio Question
I like your idea of installing your AVN in the center console. I have thought about doing that too. Leaving the stock radio in place will deter theives and has a clean factory look...but my question is why would you still want to USE the factory radio. I would just disconnect it and leave it in place and use my new AVN for the radio, cd, dvd, navigation, etc... As far as being able to connect both of them to the speakers at the same time, i have no idea
It would be awesome to put a single DIN flip out HU in the bottom cubby hole of my center console but i love my cupholders. Everytime the screen flips in or out it would hit whatever was sitting in the cupholder, so the entire front of the cupholder space would always have to be empty. The top cubby hole would be fine but will the HU fit in there? Where are you trying to put yours?
I have been shopping for an aftermarket stereo for a while now but I am very picky. Why did you choose the Eclipse model over the other brands? It will sound better than factory but it only has 13w RMS and other similar models have 18-22w RMS which will give you better and louder sound. Aside from that I like that model but i dont like the price tag. $2000? What makes this thing worth that much? Arent there other brands that do basically the same thing for half that price?

RE: Audio Question
donth8 - I am assuming you want to keep the factory radio since it has a 6-disc changer, if that is so then get an extrnal changer, you can probably get a 12 disc or higher. I have even seen 100 disc changers with the ability to hook 3 others to it for a total of 400 disc capacity. But who has 400 cds that they want to keep in their truck all the time.

RE: Audio Question
The main reason is for the cd changer, and just the factory look ...I will prob just get the adapter for the stering wheel controls for the eclipse and be done with it.
JohnAdamsR, the main reason i choose the eclipse model over the other ones...say Pioneer, is that this model has a 20gb hard drive in it that holds all of the navigation information so you do not have to have a cd in while getting directions, you can also store pictures songs and unlike the other models you can still modify the installation to allow you to play with the navigation while driving. It also has the ability to record a song playing in your vehicle and then upload it to the eclipse site and they can optimize the output for your current set up. It also comes with a pretty good warranty and since it is GPS, if it ever gets stolen, as soon as they turn it on we will know where it is at :P....
