Yes
In Auto4WD, the front axle is engaged, but power is sent to the rear wheels normally. When a loss of traction is sensed, power is sent to all four wheels.

Can you use the AUTO setting at highway speeds (60-70mph) like a AWD?

I mean it seemed, and perhaps I imagined it, to be putting extra load on the truck. It felt like it would sort ofgear down a little when I let off the gas. I also thought I could feel a little more vibration from the transfer case.

NO........I bet it only works up to 30mph like most other auto 4wd systems

Documentation (and experience) indicates it doesn't "switch off" at a pre-set speed.

Autotrac worksfine over 30mph. Even at highway speeds. I forgot, but I just recently read the manual (looking for fluid levels/type), but if I recall correctly it mentions something about it working fine at any speed.
Just out of my own superstition, I never gas it while the light is flashing during transition...
Not for the record or anything, but in the snow I think"Auto" is REALLYfun for drifting the truck around in the slippy. Gives you that small millisecond or whatever just to kick out the rear end loose and then before you know it you're in a 4WD drift! Good stuff!
