Default Bad starter?

Son's 03 GMC 2500HD doesn't start one day out of the blue. Plenty of juice in battery. Lights good, not dim and even trickle charged it until meter showed pretty much zero. Have checked terminals on battery, still just clicks when the key is turned. Click comes from under vehicle, not the starter relay. Have tapped starter and solenoid with no luck. Best guess is new starter. What's the easiest way to replace the starter. Looks like two bolts up from the bottom holding it. Course one is under brake? line. Attack it from underneath or through the wheel well?

you may get more room to work from the wheel well.

Thanks. Will attempt fix today. Knowing my wrench turning skills though, I'll probably be back here for more advice.

If you can get it off, any autozone will test it for you to see if it is good or not. When I replaced mine it ended up being that the solenoid was bad. I could either buy a brand new solenoid for $20, or an entire starter for $35 and they gave me a $20 credit for the old one.

Just a hint, when you replace it, lengthen the wires that go to the terminals on the starter so you have about 2ft extra to work with. Trust me, it'll make things much much much easier to put back together or if you have to replace it in the future.

I had this problem on my 1990 1500 350, turned out all it was is that the the ground cable connecting the motor to the frame had a corroded connection
