Why would it use so much oil? Bad rings or something?

I think these engines have half-assed designed rings ans seals in them. I get some ticking on cold mornings that goes away completely after its warmed up to operating temp. Im guessing that this problem gets worse with mileage.

What oil you guys using?

I would in a reg.cab. 2 wheel drive but not in this tank. If I did a swap it would be a bad *** diesel with a big *** turbo.
