Default Buying a new truck... 5.3 or 6.0?

Ok, so I have been MIA for a while but I am looking to pick up a new truck. I am going to go with a 03-06 Silverado but I can not decide whether or not to go with the 6.0 2500 or the 5.3 1500. If I could afford it I would get the D-max but fact is it is way outta the price range.

I do some towing, not a ton, but I really feel like have the extra grunt and size of the 2500 would be really nice. The only thing that stops me is the fact that the 6.0 is known as a gas guzzler.

What do you guys think? What kind of milage are you seeing on your 6.0s?

My 02 1500HD w/6.0 liter gets fabulous gas mileage. It's a crew cab too.

If I'm super duper light on the throttle, I can wring about 12mpg out of it. To be completely honest though, anyone with dual Flowmasters isn't going to be light on the throttle. It's delightfully deafening.

I would probably get about 3 more mpg if i didnt like hearing my exhaust so much.

I drive an 06 5.3 and my friend has an 05 6.0. We both tow campers in the summer (30 ft, 6k lbs), otherwise they are just daily drivers. I would buy the 6.0 if I did it over again. He has just that much extra grunt. I am getting about 16mpg's, he is getting about 14 mpg's...

06-07 classic vortec max. best of both worlds. all the grunt of 345hp.

14 bolt rear, a little stronger transmission, not as strong as the 4l80. and alittle better mileage than the 2500 trucks.

i get 12.5-13 in city about 17-18 on highway

The 6.0's are great motors!! But I went with a 5.3. With a tune, LS1 cam, Exhaust, CAI, and just a few other goodies(only bout $1200 spent for all of it), Im puttin out bout 360 hp, 22 MPG highway, 18 city.
