can't spin the tires, traction control?
hey guys, new to the forum but not to gm trucks. I've owned a 2002 2500hd for 4 years and recently downgraded to a 2000 gmc sierra 1500. over the last weekend me and a few of my buddies were at an offroad park and i had the truck playing in some mud, i started getting stuck and started to feather the gas and noticed that my tires don't spin in the mud. the engine will only rev to about 1300 rpm and wont go any higher to try and get the tires moving. im curious if this is due to the traction control, or if it's a back pressure problem because the truck is straight piped. if it's traction control is there a way to turn it off? ( i dont see a switch or button anywhere) any help is appreciated.

nope! If you don't have traction control you should be able to roast your tires. Maybe if you have larger tires and were caked with mud you just don't have enough gear in the back to turn them over.. What ratio do you have?? If you have a 3.08 which alot of trucks came with that would be your biggest problem. Mine came ordered with the 3.73 which was the highest you could get in a 1500. You could get a 4.10 in the 2500 and up.

By the way I just read the mileage thread where your V6 just turned over 300K.... First off that's wonderful but if this is the same truck no the V6 just don't have the ***** to do what you are wanting it to do. My Father-in-Law had a '04 or '05 with 4wd and a V6 and he bitched about it all the time wehn in the back woods. He traded it for a new one and loves the extra power of the 8. Now you can't even order a V6 and 4wd.

Ring and pinion run about $120 then some shops charge about $300 for labor. Then it depends if anything else needs to be replaced. So bout a $500 job. Me personally I would go with the 4.10's. Won't hurt MPG's. Speed it what kills MPG's cuz of the wind drag.
