i have the exact same problem, if you have a scanner wait until it picks up the code you can just erase it so it goes off, but in my truck it keeps comming back and the guys at auto zone are idiot and dont know what there doing so they have no idea

i copied this froma google search:
code P0442 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:

i just got mine taken care of by the dealer....i too had the check engine light on and my code was P0445, but i also would get a "tighten gas cap" warning on my dash. the mechanic told me it was the screen on the EVAP if you go off roading they sometimes will get clogged and the system can not pressurize the way it normally does. not too sure where the screen is so good luck....keep us posted on the results. aloha

p0442 is for a vapor leak..it COULD be the evap valve(screen,as ya'll call it)..a purge solernoid,a gas cap,a leaky tank,or any line...we fill the lines with a smoke machine and look for the leak.
