Default check engine light and new CAI

So 3 days ago I throw on my K&N with no problem, installation was a snap. I drove it for a couple of days and I notice a bit more pep, so overall, I'm happy. But now I get the check engine light!

Could this be a cooincidence? I went back and checked, and I did the install correctly per the instructions. Anyone have advice?

You need to have the code read to see what it is indicating. There has been a few people report that the oil from the K&N filter can mess with the mass air flow sensor.

Could be the opposite in my case. I ran it the first 3 days without oiling the filter at all! What a weenie!

Actually no, they should come preoiled. You shouldn't oil it again for a while.

You may just need to clear the code. The computer may have picked up in the MAF being unplugged especially if you turned the key on or tried to start it with it unplugged. You could try and clear the code and see if it comes back on.

MAF sensor cleaner will help if the sensor is contaiminated. WOT will almost always pull that oil in and get on the hot wires of the sensor. I use dry filter now.

You can actually tell by running a q-tip on there how much grime it has. Mine had it caked on there since the sensors get hot.

Thanks for the(Q) tip! LOL. I've had it on exactly 1 week today. I'm in Jersey, but still hope that I'll get a little more time before I have to clean it! LOL

Well when you do it, it has to actually be descreened. So take it off as careful as you can cuz that screen's metal is very thin, like the air fins on a radiator.
