column rattle

Probably the intermediate shaft that eventually rattles on all of them. The cheapest way is to pull it out and regrease it yourself. Supposedly GM has a newer version that won't rattle, but I haven't heard anyone confirm that. I just pull mine out and grease it periodically. It takes about 30- 45 minutes depending on how handy you are. It will be quiet for 15,000 miles or so depending on your driving conditions.

Intermediate steering shaft is the problem. I had the same issue with my 06, finally took it in and had the new shaft installed. The clunk is gone, 95% of the people who have had them replaced have had positive results. There was a bad rash of shafts that began to clunk after install but GM supposedly got that issue straightened out.
